Dan was born at home, on the dining room table, delivered by a midwife, in the South of Spain.
Dan’s first name isn’t Dan. Dan is his father. Dan’s name is actually Daniel, only that’s really his middle name.
Dan has five sisters (5!) and one brother. They grew up in a small brick row home in Southwest Philadelphia with one (1!) bathroom. Did I mention he has five (5!) sisters.
Dan’s love of books began at a very young age, in his mother’s lap, where, together, they learned English.
Dan’s favorite picture book when he was young was The Story of Ferdinand, written by Munro Leaf and illustrated by Robert Lawson.
Dan’s favorite food is pizza.
Dan’s favorite chapter book when he was young was Maniac Magee, by Jerry Spinelli. It’s the book that made Dan want to be an author.
Dan’s first book, Luigi and the Barefoot Races, is about his childhood and all the characters are based on his friends, including his good friend, Luigi.
Dan holds the world record for most pies thrown in the faces of unsuspecting children.
Dan’s only regret in life is coming back from the moon. It was really quiet up there, and the view!
